Recreation Services Department to Apply for Prop 68 Per Capita Grant

Prop 68 Flyer 8.5x11

ARROYO GRANDE, CA - The City of Arroyo Grande Recreation Services Department is applying for the Prop 68 Per Capita Grant to obtain funding to replace the current play structure at Elm Street Park. The City invites community members to be part of the conversation and join one of three virtual meetings to give input. Every idea is important and every idea will be discussed and considered.

History

In 2015, the Kiwanis Club of Arroyo Grande launched a campaign to install an inclusive playground at Elm Street Park. The service club proposed their “All access, all kids, all abilities” play structure concept to both the Arroyo Grande Parks and Recreation Commission and the City Council, and received recommendation and approval from both bodies. Since that time, the Club has raised over $7,000 for this universal access project.

In March 2019, the State of California released the Per Capita Grant Program, awarding counties and cities funding for eligible projects based on population. In November 2019, the City Council adopted a resolution to submit a grant application, which would have been due mid-2020. However, due to COVID-19, the grant application deadline was extended to December 2021 allowing more time for community involvement. With limited staffing, time and funding, this project has been selected as the greatest need from the Unfunded Parks Projects within the Capital Improvement Projects list. Help us reimagine your park!
