ARROYO GRANDE, CA – On Tuesday, January 22, 2019, the Arroyo Grande City Council adopted Resolutions No. 4897 and No. 4898 to rename City park facilities after two dedicated community members. The Elm Street Community Center is now named the “Mark M. Millis Community Center”, in acknowledgement of Mark M. Millis and the positive changes and improvements he contributed to the City as a leading proponent of parks and recreation. Also, the children’s playground area at Rancho Grande Park has been named after Mel Cottrell to acknowledge his daily efforts over the past 12 years to maintain a clean environment for children and families to enjoy. Mel Cottrell and his wife Jan have also contributed two large shade structures to the park, in addition to an audio/visual system at the Woman’s Club Community Center. A ribbon-cutting to celebrate both of these events will be publicized when dates are confirmed.
