Water Conservation

As you may know, California is in its third consecutive year of drought. The cumulative rainfall shortage has added up these past few years and we are feeling the effects of this drought more than ever. Conservation is necessary if we are to ensure our future water supply. We are asking Arroyo Grande residents to take water conservation actions now. Please understand that as a community we can keep Arroyo Grande’s water flowing.

Each year over 50% of the City’s water is used to water landscaping, with most of this water being used in the five months between May and September. To help offset the significant stress placed on our limited water resources by indoor use and landscape irrigation, the City offers the following water conservation rebate and educational programs aimed at decreasing high summer water usage, and saving you money:

  • Cash for Grass Rebate Program.
  • Water Efficient Washing Machine Rebate Program.
  • Smart Irrigation Controller Program.
  • Sustainable Landscape Seminar Series. Monthly seminars on sustainable landscaping practices were offered June – November in 2009. You can view the seminars here. DVDs of the seminars are also available at the County Library located at 800 West Branch Street in Arroyo Grande.

The City’s Plumbing Retrofit Program includes installation or adjustment of showerheads, toilets, faucet aerators, and pressure regulators for single-family and multi-family residential units constructed prior to 1992. For more information about this program, please call 473-5460.

Informational flyers/applications for all of these programs are available to the right under 'More Information'.
