Fire Prevention Tips
A few friendly tips from your Fire Department:
- Know at least two ways out of your home in an emergency and practice them regularly with your family.
- When leaving a house that is smoky, crawl, and keep your face approximately 3" above the floor. That is where the air will be.
- Never leave an open flame unattended.
- Know the emergency numbers to call in your area. In Arroyo Grande call 911. Calling 473-5100 will connect you directly to the dispatch center for administrative matters.
- Keep matches and lighters away from children. Put them on a high shelf or in a locked cabinet.
- Make sure that there is at least one smoke detector on every level of your home, and that they are functioning at all times.
- NEVER run back into a burning or smoke filled building FOR ANY REASON.
Remember, fire safety is everyone's responsibility!
