Department Overview
The purpose and responsibility of the Department of Building and Fire, Division of Fire & Emergency Services, is to provide the people of Arroyo Grande with fire protection and other emergency services.The Division assists in the elimination of fire hazards through inspection of commercial, residential,and industrial areas. The Division is also responsible for the fire protection requirements on new subdivisions and occupancies. The Director of Building and Fire also maintains operations for residential and commercial building projects through the permit and inspection process. These operations include plan checking, permit issuance, fee determinations, and all aspects of Uniform Building Code enforcement.Division of Building and Life Safety
The Department of Building & Fire, Division of Building and Life Safety is a one-stop, full service office that has earned a reputation for helpful public information services, timely inspections and efficient permit processing. This Division interprets and explains the City's policies and procedures, as well as building-related regulations and construction codes. Staffed by three full-time employees (Building Official,Building Inspector, and Building Permit Technician) and occasional contract help, the Division handles Building & Fire plan reviews and inspections on projects ranging from shopping centers to re-roofs.Division of Neighborhood Services
The Department of Building & Fire, Division of Neighborhood Services, serves the community by accomplishing community goals, protecting property values, and preserving the environment and quality of life in Arroyo Grande. Services provided by this Division are enforcement of Fire, Health, Building, and Development Code violations. These hazards or violations may include an accumulation of solid waste, overgrown vegetation,illegal construction, inoperable vehicles, unlicensed and unpermitted businesses, or other situations that result in the creation of a public nuisance.Fire Department Mission Statement
