Centennial Square Project Information

UPDATE:The City Council, on a 4-1 vote, has directed staff to develop an alternative plan that would retain one-way vehicular access on Short Street. This alternative plan will be considered by the City Council at the February 23, 2010 meeting. Please check the SLO-SPAN website for audio from the February 9, 2010 City Council meeting.

The City Council is scheduled to consider a proposed agreement with NKT Commercial at the February 9, 2010 meeting. The meeting will take place at the City Council Chambers at 7:00 p.m. at 215 East Branch Street.

Under the original agreement, the City would acquire the building at 300 East Branch Street and sell the buildings at 200 and 208 East Branch Street and the parking lot area in between. NKT Commercial would restore the building at 208 East Branch Street and construct a new 5,700 square foot commercial/restaurant building in the area of the parking lot and 200 East Branch Street. The City would close Short Street between East Branch Street and Olohan Alley and construct a pedestrian downtown square, which would be dedicated to the City’s Centennial Celebration in 2011.

The project is designed to enhance pedestrian activity and beautification in the Village, promote economic and business development, and address substantial structural, ADA, repair and space needs in City facilities, while minimizing costs to the City and enhancing City services. Full background and description information can be found in the staff report for the February 9, 2010 City Council Meeting (Item 9.a.)
