Census 2020: You Count!
The 2020 Census is closer than you think!
On April 1, 2020, it’s important to count every person living in Arroyo Grande.
Here’s why you should take the Census:
1. It’s quick and easy. In 2020, you will be able to respond to the census online, by paper questionnaire, by telephone or in person. Each household should fill out a Census form and include every person who lives at the address, including young children, babies, relatives and roommates.
2. It’s private. By law, the Census Bureau cannot share your answers with any other government agency. Census asks for your name, age, date of birth, sex, race, ethnicity, relationship to others in your household and whether you rent or own your home. However, the Census does NOT ask about citizenship or immigration status, and it’s against the law for the Census Bureau to publicly release your responses in any way that could identify you or your household.
3. It gives your community a voice. The results of the census are used to determine how many seats each State gets in the U.S. House of Representatives, how many electoral college votes each State is given and determines how legislative districts within the State are drawn.
4. It helps bring money to Arroyo Grande. The census results help the federal government decide how it distributes more than $675 billion in federal funds and grants, which are spent locally on schools, hospitals, roads, public works and other vital public programs that help you and your neighbors.
