[ARCHIVED] Sierra Drive Drainage Improvements Project, PW 2018-02

ARROYO GRANDE, CALIFORNIA – On April 23, 2019, the City Council approved a contract with R. Burke Corporation for the Sierra Drive Drainage project. R. Burke Corporation, under contract with the City of Arroyo Grande, will be performing drainage improvements along Sierra Drive during the months of June and July 2019. The area of improvement will be from approximately 1501 Sierra Drive to Oak Park Boulevard as shown on the location map. Since Sierra Drive conveys the majority of storm water flow from both Sierra Drive and Hillcrest Drive, there has been concern regarding the existing drainage infrastructure’s ability to handle the storm water flow during certain strong storm events. In order to address this concern, the project to be constructed consists of the replacement of an existing bubbler box to redirect drainage that enters onto Sierra Drive from Hillcrest Drive, removal and replacement of existing deteriorating AC dike along Sierra Drive, and the installation of a catch basin at the base of Sierra Drive to capture the storm water and convey it under Oak Park Boulevard into the existing underground storm drain system. During construction there will be intermittent lane and/or street closures for safety purposes.  The Contractor will place informational barricades on the streets advising of specific dates and locations of parking restrictions and road closure. Please note that although the barricade may state certain hours, the actual construction work may occur at any time within that range.

Normal work hours will be between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. In addition, the Contractor will hand deliver notices to each affected property 48 hours in advance of the work.

The storm drain improvements may cause temporary inconveniences because of the nature of the work. The City appreciates your patience during this period and will attempt to minimize the inconvenience. Please contact the Public Works Department at (805) 473-5460 if you have any special needs or concerns that should be taken into consideration during construction. If you have specific questions about the project, please call Jill McPeek, Capital Improvement Project Manager at (805) 473-5444. The City will also have a contract inspector on site to address concerns.
